Subscribe button added, Vanessa's blog, and a slight change of plans.

First thing I wanted to let you know is, there is a new "subscribe" box in the colum to the left (if you don't see it but have the "hamburger" three lines icon click that to find it in the menu). The subscribe box is from feedburner so be sure to activate it when you get the confirmation email and add them to your safe list! You won't get spam, just notifications when a new post is made in this blog.  :-) Our trip starts tomorrow and I am hoping to post something each night (unless we are car camping somewhere with no cell service).

Second is not so happy news, Alfredo is going to stay home with his grandparents. He returned home from the (now ex) groomer a few weeks back without having his ears dried out, let alone cleaned up, causing him to get his first ever ear infection (seriously - he has never had one before and he is 9!). I'm not at all happy. He was scratching at his ear and broke the skin, so he is now wearing the cone of shame. :-( Poor guy. He was healing up and the infection is gone, but he is still scratching at the area and is stressed out from the infection, itching, and having to wear the cone to keep him from scratching it. Because of this, I decided not to try to have him travel with us this time so he isn't spending 7 days on the road in addition to all of the above.  He loves his Nonnie and Pa and I know they will take great care of him (translation- spoil him) while I'm gone and this is what is best for him, even though I will miss him (honestly he probably won't even care I'm gone with all the attention he will get from them).

Next our other change of plans- a good friend in Italy (hey Giorgio) asked if we would be close to Promontory and if we could snap a picture for him. It was not on our original route, but we are able to make a very minor change and add the stop! It actually looks pretty cool, so I'm glad he asked!

And the last thing is something to end on a happy note- my sister has a travel blog called Travel the World History that is fabulous; you should head over there and check out her take on the trip as well! She will not have details on EV road-tripping, but will focus on our stops and has a fun point of view and a lot of posts about her travels all over the world. She is full of great ideas and is also a travel agent if you are ever looking for assistance planning/booking a trip!

Day 3- Grand Canyon and Vegas hotel

Today we woke up at the Grand Canyon destination charger with a full charge and a serious need for a bathroom. We drove to the main lodge to take care of business, then to a campground to eat breakfast at a picnic table. We packed instant oatmeal to have for breakfast so it would be quick and easy (and enough bottled water to drink AND make breakfast). We have been doing PBJ sandwiches and chips for lunch each day since we are on the road and eating at superchargers. It's been quick and easy to do the trip this way because the cooler fits nicely behind the passenger seat for easy access. Here are some views of the Grand Canyon for you to enjoy, we drove around the south rim (~50 miles of driving in the park) before heading out to Vegas. I did all the driving today, but Vanessa did take over for about 25 miles in the GC so I could check out the views. Thanks Ness!   Shout out to the Grand Hotel in Tusayan, AZ- they have ~12 superchargers, and at least 6 destination charge

Final numbers

Our final numbers for this trip are below. We laughed a lot, had a few issues with traffic/weather (to be expected on any road trip), camped in the car, stayed in a 5 star hotel, ate at a Michelin star restaurant, hiked up TWO volcanoes, went into an ice cave, explored the Grand Canyon, saw the Milky Way, got up close and personal with a deer, elk, coyote, and antelope (oh and a cute little chipmunk that was running around one of the stops too), saw a bird hovering midair, fought off tumbleweeds, saw a bunch of cool historical sites including the Oregon Trail, saw the sunrise over the salt flats and walked around on them, drove through the mountains and the desert, hiked around lava fields, saw some pretty waterfalls, and spent quality time together for a week. Whew! (did I forget anything I feel like I forgot something. LOL) What an amazing trip! Final numbers: 12 states 8 days 7 nights 4 nights car camping 3 nights in hotels 2 sisters 1 car Total miles driven:  4333 Total

Day 6- Volcano & camping in the mountains

We woke up this morning around 930, went downstairs for a real breakfast (we have been having instant oatmeal most days bc it’s quick and easy in the car), and went back to the SC to top off our charge to 100% so we would for sure have enough power to get from Twin Falls to Craters of the Moon (COTM), drive around, leave climate control on when we got out to walk around, and still make it to Idaho Falls to charge again. We left with about 300 miles (so not totally full but close enough) and we got to Idaho Falls no problem. We again could have probably left at 85ish% and been ok, but we weren’t sure what the weather would be like and how much time we would spend at the volcano, so better safe than sorry. My sister took the first driving shift again because it looked to be mostly alongside the mountains, rather than over or through them. Just outside of town is where the giant baby elk was hanging out, looking like he couldn’t decide if he should cross the road or not. She slowed
